Increasing Attention for Tutor/Mentor Programs

Below are 1994 to 2019 Chicago print media stories resulting from Tutor/Mentor Connection strategies (led by Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC since 2011). Not listed are stories about the Cabrini Connections program we also led during these year, nor the numerous radio and TV interviews. As you look at these imagine how many stories you could generate if you duplicated the Tutor/Mentor Connection in your own city.

In this 1995 Commentary in the Chicago Tribune, John McCarron said that Dan Bassill and the Tutor/Mentor Connection has a "master plan" for saving kids. All of the information on this and other T/MC web sites is part of that 'master plan'.  This 4-part strategy of the Tutor/Mentor Connection shows that the T/MC collects information that is hosted on this site and works to increasing the number of stories in print, electronic, internet, business and faith communities that point to where tutor/mentor programs are needed, why they are needed and organizations already operating that need a constant flow of operating dollars, technical support and volunteers to grow from "good to great".  In addition to these media stories look at the number of times T/MC staff have written about other Tutor/Mentor programs in Chicago in blog articles - see pdf.

This article printed in the Chicago Tribune in December 1994 outlines the Public Awareness strategy that the T/MC has been leading every year since then.

Below is a list of stories that support this strategy. Click the link to open a PDF and read the story. The ideas shared in these stories are just as relevant today as in the past and the challenges of poverty are even more severe.

Hope and Opportunity! Help Needed.

Add your support to help volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs reach youth in more places.

Volunteer based tutoring/mentoring programs connect youth from high poverty areas with people, experiences, ideas and opportunities from beyond poverty. They offer HOPE and OPPORTUNITY for young people in areas where too many young people fear they will not be alive past age 21.

The goal of the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC (T/MI), and the Tutor/Mentor Connection, is to collect and share information and ideas that help make high-quality volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs available in more of the high poverty neighborhoods of Chicago and other big cities and that volunteers who become involved in tutor/mentor programs have a life-changing impact as a result of many years of involvement, and growing levels of leadership.

T/MI is not a 501_c_3 non profit that seeks charity to fund our work. The Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC  does not seek to make a fortune for investors. T/MI seeks to generate revenue that can pay fair salaries and enable problem-solving innovation investments.

The T/MI is building a "social problem solving platform" that can be used by anyone in the Chicago region, and can be duplicated in every major city in the world.  T/MI seeks to cover expenses, pay reasonable salaries, and innovate products and services that help tutor/mentor programs grow in more places. Everything you see on this and other Tutor/Mentor Institute web sites is made possible by people who help us with contributions because they appreciate the information we offer on this site and the work we're doing to help volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs reach youth in more places.

This vision started over 20 years ago in the fall of 1993. Read more.

While every section of this web site demonstrates an activity of the Tutor/Mentor Institute that requires consistent investment and improvement, this planning wiki outlines the various strategies we will develop with your continued support.  View this PDF to see potential value offered by this strategy.

T/MI is not a manufacturer of widgets, apparel or other products that we can sell for a profit and fund our work.
Yet we need help from people who supported us from 1993-2011 while we operated under a non-profit structure.

Help us do this work. Visit this page and use PayPal to make a year end contribution to support Dan Bassill and the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC.
Don't think of this as a charity donation. Think of it as an investment in the future of our youth.
